Kampung Kuantan

The oldest Kampung Tradisi in Klang is Kampung Kuantan. This village is situated next to the Klang River. Since Tun Perak’s time as Penghulu Klang during the State of Melaka’s rule by Sultan Muzaffar Shah (1445-1458), it has had a rich history. It is said that the Kampung Kuantan has been around since the 16th century which was around the 1530s.

Like other Kampung Tradisi, Kampung Kuantan is still run by a village chief. The residents of Kampung Kuantan are all farmers who cultivate rice fields and fish in the Klang River, as it befits a traditional community. The dwellings in Kampung Kuantan resemble the homes of Melaka residents in shape. This is because when Tun Perak took over as Chief of Klang, he brought carpenters and homes from Melaka with him.

In modern times, Kampung Kuantan residents have constructed their homes out of stone and contemporary materials in keeping with the advancement of a quickly developing nation. Although there are people of many different races living there, the Malays still make up the majority.

Kampung Jawa

In the 19th century, Dato’ Dagang, also known as Haji Mohd. Tahir, and other religious scholars travelled to Malaya due to Dutch administration’s repressive laws. They established Kampung Jawa village in 1880, leading Sultan Abdul Samad to nominate Dato’ Akib, a village mosque’s imam in Java, as the village chief. Dato’ Akib had also fought in Selangor’s civil war.

Dato’ Dagang initiated the account of the opening of the first mosque in Kampung Jawa. The founder of Kampung Jawa Mosque, Dato’ Dagang, contributed to society by founding and developing Kampung Jawa, donating land for the mosque, and offering financial and energy support. He made the decision to build a mosque in the community after opening Kampung Jawa and donated a building’s lot. The building project was sponsored by the Sultan of Selangor, villagers’ support, and Dato’ Dagang’s supporters. Dato’ Dagang, who passed away in 1923, is still frequently mentioned in today’s generation.

It is thought that the mosque in Kampung Jawa, which was constructed in the 19th century, is similar to the mosques in Java. Its design and components, like the beduk, came from Java. One of the oldest in the region, the mosque was finished in 1885. The construction of an Indian mosque in 1904, which was encouraged by a well-known trader from India, lessened the significance of the structure.

The village has grown alongside Bandar Klang, providing all infrastructure acilities, including public transport, water supply, electricity, and telephone. The majority of the locals are Javanese ancestry, and Tuan Haji Taib bin Haji Lazim, also known as “Wak Lurah Taib”, was chosen as the first village chief of Kampung Delek.

Kampung Rantau Panjang

The opening of Kampung Rantau Panjang is dated to 1890. The name ‘Rantau Panjang’ derives from the legend of the migration of four tribes from neighbouring islands, which are from Palembang, Bilah, Banjar and also Jawa. Armed with a strong spirit, the four tribes have laboriously explored and established new gardens, which have since grown and transformed into one of the historical villages located in the Royal City of Klang. As one of the most developed villages in terms of infrastructure development, including the building of the North Klang Strait Motorway (Grand Sepadu), based on its strategic location between the North Klang Port and the North South Motorway (PLUS), Kampung Rantau Panjang is still known by this name today. Kampung Rantau Panjang originally had 100 residents, but today there are about 10,000 people living there, either as permanent residents or as a result of migration from other districts.

Kampung Meru

Around 1911, Kampung Meru was first explored. The settlers that came to Kampung Meru were descendants of the Javanese people who lived in Batu Belah.Ten years after being explored, the population, which now numbers about 50 families, is growing rapidly. In order to provide the newly established community with a leader, Tn Hj Mohammad Shariff was chosen in 1911 to serve as the first village chief. There is a mountain in Java with the same name as the original settlement of the Meru Village, Mount Mahameru, which inspired the choice of the name Kampung Meru.

Day by day, Kampung Meru’s population started to grow. Workers of Indian heritage moved to Kampung Meru when a group of traders of Chinese descent started to do so. On the site of the current ancient mosque, the Kampung Meru mosque was initially constructed in 1916. A cemetery was established in Kampung Hj Mohamad Sharif by Kampung Meru locals in 1917.Kampung Meru, which had a tiny village area 100 years ago, has transformed into a town that is growing quickly. For the convenience of the residents, the Meru community now includes the necessary infrastructure, including schools, mosques, surau, clinics, banks, and more than 40 housing complexes.

Kampung Raja Uda

One of the royal family members, Tun Isa Uda, is the source of the name Kampung Raja Uda. In 1953, Sultan Hisamuddin Alam Shah opened this village. The initial inhabitants of this village were employees from Port Klang who had migrated from neighbouring states, particularly Melaka. Starting from the location of the existing Religious School canteen, Kampung Raja Uda was established. Between Kampung Pandamaran, Kampung Delek, and Kampung Telok Gadong is where this community is situated. To help the Malays in the Port Klang area advance, Kampung Raja Uda was built in 1953. An influx of Malays from Port Klang, who had previously resided in slums and rented longhouses primarily owned by Chinese and Indians, led to the development of Kampung Raja Uda.
